Eyes on the horizon! What's next for our game? ๐ฎ
Here's to an epic 2025! ๐ป
Keep your eye on the horizon, because big things are coming! Having just run our first online playtest, we're all feeling inspired to work even harder to truly deliver the next big thing in roguelike deckbuilding. The recent playtest taught us many lessons about what we need to improve on, but most of all it taught us (if general buzz and play duration are anything to go by) that there is truly something special about Davy Jones Deckhand.
Results from the playtest
We had 30 people sign up for our January playtest. The valuable feedback, strategic discussions on Discord, and good vibes have made the process an absolute blast! We were so happy to see players truly enjoying it and engaging for many hours and many voyages. We even had our first streamer play the game:
A sneak peek at a new enemy type
Check out character artist Nik Scarr's latest enemy creation. These morphing mermaids will catch you off guard and feature two unique phases, forcing the player to alter their approach.
The next phase
We are busy iterating on some of our designs based on learnings from our first playtest. We are also excited to be starting on the next phase of the combat loop which will introduce exciting new features, such as:
- A sexy new HUD ๐ฅ
- Card removal ๐
- Artefacts / Relics ๐๏ธ
- Consumables ๐งช
- Currency ๐ช
- Save system ๐พ
We can't wait to share the next iteration with players.
Personal highlight: Tep's new arrival ๐ฃ
We have our first studio baby! Congratulations to Cass Bay Games' environment artist/UI designer Tep and his wife on the birth of their second child over the holidays. If Tep wasn't busy enough before, we are sure he will be now.
Until next time me hearties, yo ho!
