Keywords
Keywords are terms that appear throughout the game — on cards, status effects, artefacts, and elsewhere — to describe special rules and mechanics. Each keyword has a consistent meaning wherever it appears.
More keywords will be documented as the game develops.

| Attack Damage | HP damage if this attack BREAKS your stance. | |
| Attack Force | Removes PARRY points from primary stance. Stance will BREAK if PARRY drops below zero. |
| Break | Stance deactivated and card returned to discard pile. | |
| Combo | A countdown status applied to certain enemies. When Combo reaches zero, the enemy performs a dangerous Finisher move. Can be interrupted with a counter-attack. |
| Counter-Attack | Triggers during enemy turn if PARRY perfectly matches incoming ATTACK FORCE, deal counter damage then SWITCH. |
| Piercing Parry Counter-Attack | Counter-attack variant that bypasses armor. |
| Steady Parry Counter-Attack | Counter-attack variant that maintains PARRY and position. |
| Curse | A card type. Curse cards typically have drawbacks when drawn but powerful effects when played. Several artefacts trigger bonus effects whenever you draw or play a Curse card. | |
| Encounter | Voyages are measured in encounters. Combat encounters include multiple waves. | |
| Exhaust | Card removed until next Wave. | |
| Finisher | A dangerous move performed when COMBO status reaches zero. |
| Leeway | Allows counter-attacks to trigger while PARRY is 1 off from a perfect match. |
| Max HP | Your maximum health points, dictated by your choice of weapon. | |
| Max Parry | Maximum amount of PARRY that a stance can apply. | |
| Natural | A stance with the NATURAL tag is active at the start of each combat. Draws to hand when STANCELESS. | |
| Open | When you play an attack against an enemy with OPEN, the cost of the attack card is refunded. |
| Parry | Deflects ATTACK FORCE of enemy attacks and can be used to trigger a counter-attack. |
| Piercing | Damage that bypasses armor. | |
| Poison | Lose X HP when you end your turn. Clears after this encounter. | |
| Poise | This stance's next X counter-attacks deal +50% damage. Stack reduced by 1 at start of turn. |
| Primary Stance | Your main stance. | |
| Primary Attack | Triggers attack of primary stance. | |
| Secondary Stance | Your reserve stance. | |
| Secondary Attack | Triggers attack of secondary stance. | |
| Stamina | The resource used to play cards. Replenishes each turn. | |
| Stanceless | No active stance. | |
| Strength Stance | Increases attack and counter-attack damage of stance. |
| Strength Enemy | Increases ATTACK FORCE and ATTACK DAMAGE. |
| Switch | Stances swap positions. | |
| Wave | Each combat ENCOUNTER has several waves that must be survived. | |
| Weak Enemy | Negative STRENGTH. Weakens ATTACK FORCE and ATTACK DAMAGE (to a minimum of 1). Reduced by 1 each turn. |
| Weak Stance | Negative STRENGTH. Weakens attack and counter-attack damage. Reduced by 1 each turn. |
